Scholarship

Beta membership encourages individual and chapter support of the academic mission and provides opportunities for co-curricular learning and personal growth. Our chapter specifically has a history of scholastic excellence. We have proven to be the most successful chapter on campus in recent history; in the 2009-2010 academic years, we ranked first in grades among all 32 fraternities on campus for 5 straight academic quarters, and we have not fallen below third in over five years.

Reporting over 100 members, we consistently achieve at or above a 3.4 average chapter GPA, and every quarter 40-50 of our members attain Dean's List recognition (3.50 or above). Our recruitment is structured around seeking out young men of integrity with high academic standards, and we hold ourselves accountable individually and as a chapter to support a culture of achievement and excellence. Our academic performance has been recognized by the UW Interfraternity Council in awarding our chapter the Excellence in Academic Programming plaque for three straight years, and by our General Fraternity through presenting our chapter the honorary Virginia Tech Award six years running.

Athletics

Historically, the Washington chapter of Beta Theta Pi has attracted some of the most successful athletes in Beta history. On campus, Beta Theta Pi used to consistently house the most varsity athletes out of any fraternity. Although scholarship athletes cannot be members of a fraternity any longer, our chapter still takes athletics and overall physical health very seriously. Many members played multiple varsity sports in high school, and continue their interest in competitive athletics through intramural and club sports teams. Consistently, our house outperforms other fraternities on the athletic field, and being among the top three IMA point houses on campus. Overall, we encourage and support all members to participate in numerous athletic activities.

Leadership

Beta Theta Pi's long tradition of developing character and leadership is the result of careful planning and purposeful giving. Today, the Men of Principle initiative provides a clear vision for students based on the Three Great Principles of Beta, Theta and Pi. Since 2000, the Men of Principal initiative has raised over $20.1 million for undergraduates to attend leadership conferences across the United States and Canada. All members are given the opportunity to register and attend these life changing programs which range from wilderness excursions to leadership institutes at our founding chapter at Miami University. Visit our national website for more information regarding these programs.

Philanthropy

At Beta Theta Pi, we demonstrate a strong commitment to our community through community service, fundraising, and donation. One of our most prominent efforts is our Dragon Cup Philanthropy in the spring, where we host a sorority soccer tournament all week long to raise money for The American Cancer Society. This philanthropy event combined with our Relay for Life fundraising efforts raised over $12,000 last spring, the most out of any fundraising team on campus! In addition, our most recent pledge class completed over 600 hours of community service just this last fall.
